Why relocate the IAT sensor on your E46 M3 or E39 M5
From the factory, the IAT sensor sits inside the AFM and is exposed to heat soak from the radiator and engine bay. The DME then sees artificially high intake temperatures and pulls performance to protect the engine. In real use, temperatures inside the AFM can be over 45°F higher than true ambient air, around 25°C. Relocating the IAT into the front airdam places it in the fresh, incoming airflow so the ECU receives accurate readings and the car delivers the power it should.
