Bearing construction and materials
High strength steel back with a cast bronze substrate finished with a lead indium overlay (originally known as VP2). This structure delivers higher fatigue strength than typical race bearings along with better conformability. Do not confuse these with generic “tri-metal” bearings that are usually sintered with lower fatigue strength and lead/tin overlays. MAHLE’s VP2-type overlay remains a proven choice in major global race series.

Optional upgrade: ARP S85 Rod Bolts
Designed by BE Bearings and manufactured by ARP to be used with BMW factory connecting rods. Custom torque specifications are used to minimise big-end bore distortion. These bolts have been measured and verified to help maintain roundness within ARP torque spec.
