If you are chasing oil misting, inconsistent idle, or suspected N54 boost leak issues under load, replacing the factory plastic PCV valve is a proven first step. The OEM unit does not hold pressure well even when new, which can allow turbocharged pressure to leak into the crankcase during boost. This can contribute to further pressurisation, oil loss issues, and performance inconsistencies. The RB PCV Valve addresses this weak point directly.

Why upgrade your BMW N54 PCV valve

The standard plastic PCV valve on the N54 is known to leak pressure, even from new. Under boost this can force pressurised air into the crankcase, which may lead to excess blow-by and oil-related issues. The RB PCV Valve is designed to hold pressure more effectively, helping to maintain stable crankcase ventilation on tuned or stock N54 twin turbo cars such as the 135i, 335i, 535i and Z4 35i.

Notes and best practice

  • This solution addresses the OEM PCV valve itself. It will not fix a leaky or cracked valve cover or a failing valve cover gasket, which are common on the N54. If the valve cover is removed, always install a new gasket and use a light amount of high-quality sealant around the pressurisation ports at each intake runner.
  • The RB PCV Valve does not remove the benefits of an oil catch can. It may reduce the amount a catch can collects, but catch cans can still be beneficial on engines with higher blow-by.
  • A new O-ring is pre-installed. Replacement O-rings are available separately if required.
