What is the Helix
The Helix is a precision planetary gearbox that mounts to your existing Continental high pressure fuel pump. Using sun, planet and ring gears with a fixed ring gear and separate rotating axles for the sun and planet gears, the unit increases pump shaft speed in an axial package. The result is more delivery events per engine cycle which translates to higher effective HPFP flow and steadier high pressure at elevated power levels.

- Helix supports 750+ whp on E60 mixes or suitable petrol blends
- Helix Xtreme information: up to around 750 whp on full E85 and 850+ on E60. Helix Xtreme is still in longevity testing

Reliability and HPFP longevity
Spool Performance extensively investigated common Continental HPFP failure modes during development. The most frequent issues observed were related to the inlet metering valve actuation and the limp-home bypass valve seal integrity. Physical inspection of high-mileage pump internals showed minimal wear on the mechanical components. The overdrive does not introduce new wear patterns to these areas and the common failure modes are not driven by increased pump speed. Ethanol exposure can affect older rubber sealing elements in the bypass valve so correct maintenance and fuel choice remain important.
Tuning requirements
A calibration change is required to use the Helix to its full potential. The necessary tune adjustments are available with all major tuners and Spool Performance can provide the required calibration changes upon request.
